As we all grew up listening to the patriotic song Vande Mataram, we hardly thought about its creator or composer much. So today, on the occasion of the 180th birth anniversary of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, the composer of the patriotic song of our country, Vande Mataram, we would like to take you all through his life’s journey.

Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay is most popularly known as Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. The national songwriter was born in the year 1838 to an orthodox Bengali Brahmin family in the village Kanthalpara in the town of North 24 Parganas, Near Naihati and he was the youngest of his siblings.

The writer, poet and journalist’s earliest publications included writing in a weekly newspaper Sangbad Prabhakar and he started his literary career as a writer of verse. Celebrating the renowned writer many big personalities have been remembering the legendary writer, by paying tribute to him in various ways.

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar took to his social media account to pen a few lines for the Sahitya Samrat. Bhandarkar paid tribute to Bankim Chandra on Twitter writing, “Tribute to the great novelist & poet Shri Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay who penned India National song ‘#VandeMataram on his birth anniversary.”

Also, politicians like Smriti Irani, Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal also remembered the writer for his literary contribution. While Smriti Irani extended her respect to the prolific writer for giving us the national song, Manohar Lal said that Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay will always be remembered by all generations to come for his contribution to our national song.
