The Indian payment app BHIM has added new features to provide a better user experience. The users can now pay their electricity, water and gas bills through this app now. The latest updates will be available on Android and IOS. National payments cooperation of India (NPCI) has launched it under Digital India campaign to make user experience. The user can make payments through directly to the bank accounts with help of UPI. The Government of India is also offering special cash back and discounts to BHIM app users.
“Pay bills on the go using BHIM Bill Pay. Also, you can save your bills for future payments. Biller Categories: Post-paid Mobile, Landline, Broadband, DTH, Electricity, Gas & water,” said an official. “The trials for this feature are already on and NPCI plans to start this facility within the next few months,” he added.
The app has also added voice recognition features that will give a better experience.
As per NPCI data, 190 million financial transactions were done this year which value of these transactions amounted to Rs 27,020 crore. While the BHIM app accounted for 12.6 million financial transactions that value nearly Rs 4,973 crore.
Apart from UPI, many platforms have been launched for enabling seamless cashless transactions including Aadhaar-enabled payment system and mobile wallets.
The application was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Digi Dhan Mela at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on 30 December 2016. It was named after Dr. Bhimrao R. Ambedkar and is intended to facilitate e-payments directly through banks as part of the 2016 Indian banknote demonetisation and drive towards cashless transactions.
