Harry Kane’s world cup career is barely 180 minutes old and the English striker has already stormed his way into the record books. The 24-year-old Tottenham man scored a sensational hat-trick on Sunday against Panama to take his world cup goal tally to 5 goals. With the three goals in the match, he usurped Romelu Lukaku (4 goals) and Cristiano Ronaldo (4 goals) from the top of FIFA World Cup 2018 goal scorer list.

Kane got off to a flying start to his maiden world cup campaign when he scored a fantastic match-winning brace in England’s opener against Tunisia. The England striker looked more determined, clinical and hungrier in the game and after getting the captain’s armband, he has taken his game to the next level.

On Sunday, it was Panama that fell to the fury of Harry Kane. He scored England’s second and fourth goal through penalties and capped his perfect outing by bagging another with a sublime finish.

6 shots, 5 on target, 5 goals. Kane only needed 153 minutes to score 5 world cup goals, a feat that several English greats took multiple world cup campaigns to achieve.

He has become the first player since France’s Just Fontaine in 1958 to score 5 goals in first two world cup matches. Fontaine scored went on to score a staggering 13 goals in that campaign, Harry Kane is now expected to at least cross the 10-goal mark.

In the all-time list of England’s top scorers in the world cups, Harry Kane now trails just Gary Lineker and sits on par with Geoff Hurst. His hattrick against Panama saw him surpass the likes of Bobby Charlton, Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney.
