According to a report, a 23-old-young man was killed in Haryana’s Jind district by his neighbours after his brother did an inter-caste marriage. The accused were reportedly upset about the marriage. The deceased has been identified as Sompal Singh was the youngest of 3 brothers in the family. The victim was working as a labourer at a construction site. The victim’s elder brother had married a Dalit girl 3 years back by going against the family will. This had made their Dalit neighbours in Chandralok Colony upset, who often picks up a fight over petty issues.

On late Friday night, June 22, 2018, Sompal’s eldest brother Ramjeet who was roaming around the village was confronted by a drunken man who was disappointed by the victim’s brother act. The report suggests that he started abusing him for allowing a Dalit girl to enter the region. As per Ramjeet, the accused had threatened him and said that the victim has committed a big mistake by going for love marriage with a girl belonging to other caste and the family will surely face the consequences in the coming days.

Ramjeet said he had a minor scuffle with the accused identified as Satish after which both of them went home.

According to the complainant, Ramneet, after a couple of hours, the accused along with his family members reached the victim’s house with lathis and several agricultural implements. The mob first raised their voices and said that they will soon teach a lesson to the victim for marrying a Dalit girl and allowing her to reside in their community. My youngest brother Sompal came out of the house hearing the noise and Satish’s family brutally attacked him with lathis and sharp implements on his head. Satyawan, his wife Neelam and I were also beaten up when we tried to save Sompal, added  Ramjeet.

According to a report, the local police has registered a case against 7 members of Satish’s family, including his spouse and 2 other ladies. All of them have been booked under Sections 148, 149, 302 and 323 of the IPC.
