T|he Supreme Court is likely to announce its verdict on the review petition filed by the convicts in Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case. The convicts have filed a request to review the death sentence. A 3 judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and Justices R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan will be delivering the verdict on the review petition.

Earlier, a trial court in Delhi had delivered the death sentence to Mukesh (29), Pawan Gupta (22) and Vinay Sharma (23) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31). As per reports, except Akshay Kumar Singh rest 3 convicts have requested to review the death sentence order. The Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case had also triggered an outrage across the country. After the incident, the government made many changes in laws for crime against women and sexual crimes.

10:40am: Nirbhaya’s mother on Saturday said that the Supreme Court should set an example for those who continue to commit a crime against the women in our country. She said in rape cases even the death penalty is not enough.
