Karnataka crisis: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Karnataka government to investigate multi-crore IMA fraud case, has detained disgruntled Congress MLA Roshan Baig, said Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. He was detained for questioning at the BIAL airport. In a tweet, Kumaraswamy said that Baig was trying to leave for Mumbai along with Santosh, BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa’s personal assistant. He said that Santhosh on seeing the SIT, Santosh ran away.

Accusing BJP of helping Baig’s escape, the chief minister said that it is a shame for Karnataka BJP unit that is extending helping hand to a former minister who is facing a probe in the IMA case. He said that BJP MLA Yogeshwar was present during the time of the incident. Kumaraswamy asserted that this clearly shows BJP’ s direct involvement in destabilizing the Congress-JD(S) coalition government through horse-trading.

Baig was suspended from the party for alleged anti-Congress activities. He resigned from the party on July 9, a day before he threatened of quitting the Congress.

Meanwhile, at least 14 Congress and JD(S) MLAs have resigned from their respective parties, threatening the survival of the government. If their resignation is accepted, the Congress will lose the majority, leaving the next government for the BJP.

The chief minister on last Friday said that he would seek a vote of confidence on the floor of the House. According to Congress leader Siddaramaiah, the discussion on trust vote would be taken up on Thursday at 11 am in Karnataka Assembly.
