Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel on Thursday sent defamation notice to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) legislator Manjinder Singh Sirsa after the latter retweeted a picture of a white duster pasted with a sticker ‘Son of MLA’ and claimed that the car belonged to the Speaker’s son. The speaker, in response, refuted Sirsa’s claims and sent a defamation notice to him.

Rejecting Sirsa’s claim, Goel has sought a written apology within seven days and has threatened to sue him for defamation if he doesn’t.

The defamation notice stated that the car didn’t belong to Goel’s son and that Sirsa was making false and defamatory allegations to tarnish his reputation. Sirsa is the MLA from Rajouri Garden Assembly constituency in Delhi.

The notice also called up Sirsa to stop any further circulation of the report justifying false claims, reported ANI. Further, it was stated that in case of failure to comply with the notice within seven days of receipt of the legal notice, Sirsa will have to face appropriate civil as well as criminal proceedings under the relevant provisions of law at his own risk as to cost and consequences.
