Delhi government releases Rs 500 crore for development works in unauthorised colonies: Delhi government on Friday released Rs 500 crore for development work in over thousands of unauthorised colonies in the national capital. The decision has been taken a day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal declared that ownership rights would be given to the residents of the unauthorised colonies.
Most of the residents in the colonies are immigrants living in the city for the past few decades for a better life style. However, the areas have been left behind in terms of infrastructure growth and other utilities from rest of the city.
In a statement released by the Delhi government, it was said that the urban development department has released Rs 500 crore to the irrigation and flood control department under the head of development of unauthorised colonies. A total of Rs 1500 crore have been alloted for the development work in the colonies and Rs 700 had already been released by the Delhi government.
It has also been reported that the Union affairs ministry has sought suggestions from the Delhi government over a cabinet draft that assures ownership rights to people living in the unauthorised colonies.
Undoubtedly, the people residing in the colonies decide the fate of political parties in the state elections. Every other party has always mentioned working for these colonies in their manifestos and party rallies.
