It seems like the longstanding power tussle between Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government and central government appointed Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal might come to an end following the Supreme Court’s verdict that came on Wednesday. While the verdict came as a big relief for the Delhi government, it has also limited the powers of Delhi governor Anil Baijal. Welcoming the Supreme Court’s verdict, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to his Twitter handle to celebrate the victory of AAP. In a brief tweet, he said, “A big victory for the people of Delhi…a big victory for democracy…”

Along with Kejriwal, other AAP ministers including, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia also thanked the apex court for its verdict and said that it is a big win for the democracy. He asserted that it is a big victory for state governement and no work will be stalled in the national capital as no files will be send to the L-G for aprroval.

Commenting on SC’s disapproval to AAP’s demand of full statehood, former Delhi CM Sheila Dixit asserted that as per Article 239 (AA) of the Constitution, Delhi is not a state, it is a UT. Slamming the state government, she further added that the Congress ruled the national capital for 15 years, but no conflicts took place then. She said that if Delhi government and L-g don’t work together then the problems will keep on erupting in Delhi.

BJP MP Subramanian Swamy also favoured the Supreme Court’s orders and said that Delhi Governor should respect Delhi cabinet decisions. Dubbing AAP leaders as Naxalite, he added that L-G should oppose the AAP government of any unconstitutional or anti-constitutional decision is taken by the AAP government.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court said limited the power of L-G by giving more power to AAP-led state government.
