Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia granted bail by Delhi court in defamation case filed by BJP leader Vijender Gupta: A Special Court in Delhi on Tuesday granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with a defamation suit filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijender Gupta. Both have to furnish a bail bond of Rs 10,000 each. Gupta, who is the leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, had filed the lawsuit in the Patiala House Court on June 4, 2019 and filed a police complaint against the two leaders.
BJP leader Vijender Gupta had filed a defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia alleging that the AAP leaders were tarnishing his image by accusing him of attempting to kill Arvind Kejriwal. Gupta had also sent legal notices to both Kejriwal and Sisodia seeking an apology for the comments but he did not receive a response to the notices.
During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal had claimed that the BJP was conspiring to get him murdered by his own personal security officer, similar to how former prime minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated. Kejriwal’s statement came after a man slapped him during a roadshow on May 4, 2019.
Gupta had then said that Kejriwal had instructed his liaison officer to keep security personnel away from him. Sisodia had also said that Gupta’s comments were proof that the BJP was involved in the assassination plot of the Delhi chief minister.
